Keeping your pet healthy is important to us! At Animal Care Center, regular wellness examinations for your dog and cat are the foundation for a longer, healthier, happier life. Our wellness care program covers vaccinations, preventive care such as heartworm and intestinal parasite testing, nose to tail exams, and comprehensive evaluations of overall health.

Regular Wellness Exams for Life

Whatever stage of life, from puppy and kitten to senior companion, your pet needs regular visits to the veterinarian to prevent or address medical problems. Bring your pet to us for comprehensive veterinary care and pet owner support. When you have questions, we have answers!

Good advice about caring for a dog or cat takes the animal’s age into consideration. Your pets’ needs change—tailoring medical and wellness care to the current stage of life ensures that the time you spend together will be long and happy. We recommend all adult pets under age seven receive annual wellness exams.

The Wellness Visit

During this annual visit, the veterinarian will perform the following:

  • Comprehensive physical examination
  • Intestinal parasite screening
  • Heartworm testing
  • Junior wellness lab panel
  • Dental examination
  • Vaccination update
  • Discussion of nutrition, behavior, and any pet owner questions

The wellness evaluations are an opportunity to minimize potential health risks through early detection and treatment.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are essential to protecting your pet from many serious or life-threatening diseases and illnesses. We create a vaccination schedule that offers the best preventive care for your pets and is tailored to their breed, age, condition, and lifestyle needs. However, the rabies vaccination is required by law for all canines and felines.

Puppies & Kittens

To help you and your new pet get off to a great start together, we recommend scheduling your first visit with us at six weeks of age or as soon as your puppy or kitten joins the family. You can expect this visit to include:

  • Comprehensive physical exam
  • Brief oral exam
  • The first vaccinations and development of a vaccination schedule
  • Testing for intestinal parasites and de-worming
  • Testing for viruses in kittens: feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus
  • Heartworm preventive and parasite control
  • Nutritional instructions
  • Behavioral information

Of course, at this time we answer any questions regarding your new companion.

New pets require several visits in the first few months, usually three or four weeks apart. This gives us the opportunity to complete the initial vaccination series, dispense heartworm medication, and monitor any developing medical or behavioral conditions.

We recommend spay or neuter surgery around six months of age for any pet not enrolled in a breeding program.

Senior Pet Care

Most pets are considered to be seniors at about seven years of age. Because your pet’s life span is so short, health conditions tend to develop much more rapidly. Subtle changes we see in senior pets include reduced activity, vision or hearing loss, increase or decrease in appetite or thirst, behavioral issues, dental problems, arthritis, and obesity. Due to risks associated with aging, we recommend all pets seven years and older schedule wellness exams twice a year.

During this visit, we may perform the following:

  • Comprehensive physical examination
  • Blood work and urinalysis
  • Intestinal parasite screening
  • Heartworm testing
  • Vaccinations
  • Dental exam
  • Ophthalmic exam
  • Chest X-ray
  • EKG
  • Mobility evaluation

We typically discuss nutritional needs, behavioral changes, and answer any questions about your aging companion. Regular senior wellness visits help minimize potential health risks through early detection and treatment.
